# Buyers verify their ID before every showing

> Before a showing, the buyer verifies their identity with an INE or passport and a live selfie, so owners and agents know who is coming into the home.

On Multilistado, every property showing starts with a buyer ID check: a photo of an official ID and a live selfie that's compared with the photo on the document. It takes the buyer about 2 minutes, once, and it's good for 12 months with any agent. Owners and agents know who's coming into the home before anyone opens the door.

## How a buyer gets verified

1. **Consent.** Before starting, the buyer reads what data is used, what for and for how long, and gives express consent. Biometrics are sensitive data under Mexico's privacy law (LFPDPPP), which is why we ask this way.
2. **Official ID.** Take a photo with the camera or upload one. We accept an INE voter card (front and back), a passport from any country, a driver's license from Mexico, the US or Canada, a Mexican residence card, and a US state ID or Canadian provincial ID. We read the name, date of birth, number and expiration date, and we reject expired IDs, screenshots, and images that don't look like an original document.
3. **Live selfie.** The camera asks you to look straight ahead and turn your head in an order that changes every time, to confirm a real person is in front of the phone and not a photo. Then the face is compared with the photo on the ID.
4. **Done.** The verification stays valid for 12 months, or until the ID expires if that comes first. Showing requests that were waiting are sent to the agent as soon as it's finished.

If after several attempts we can't confirm the person matches the ID, the request reaches the agent marked "not verified" and the agent decides how to proceed.

## Who sees what

| Who | What they see |
|---|---|
| The Multilistado agent you request a showing from | That you're verified, plus a copy of your ID and the front-facing selfie photo so they can recognize you at the showing. Every view is logged. |
| The listing agent, when the home is on another portal | Only the verified badge, your first name and last initial, the ID type and the date. Never the images. |
| The owner | In the agent's showing report: your first name and last initial (for example, "Juan P."), the showing date and that your identity was verified. Never your ID number or images. |

A buyer can withdraw permission to show their name to owners at any time from their [identity verification page](/cuenta/identidad). If they do, owners only see "Verified buyer."

When the showing is for a home on another portal, the buyer explicitly shares their verification through the link their agent sends, and the name on the ID has to match the name on the agreement. The showing can't be scheduled until the client is verified.

## Why it matters

- **For owners.** Opening your home to a stranger is a risk. This step tells you that whoever came in showed a real ID and that their face matches it.
- **For agents.** Plenty of showings are one-on-one with someone you just met online. You show up knowing who you're meeting, and there's a record if something goes wrong.
- **For buyers.** You verify once and it works with every Multilistado agent for 12 months, instead of texting photos of your ID to each person.

## Privacy

- ID and selfie images are kept in private storage, never on public pages.
- They're kept for 24 months after verification, for the safety of agents and owners, even if the buyer deletes their account; then they're deleted.
- Multilistado's open data API and MCP server don't share buyer data or identity verifications.

## Tips

- Use good light with no glare, and get the whole document in the photo.
- For the selfie, take off glasses and caps and hold the phone at eye level.
- Do it before your first showing request so nothing stalls. You can start from [your account](/cuenta/identidad) or in the [buyer app](/funciones/app-para-compradores) under Account → ID.
- If you're an agent, see how it ties into [commission-sharing agreements](/funciones/convenios-de-comision-compartida) and [showing requests](/funciones/solicitar-visita-con-agente-verificado).

## How it works, step by step
1. The buyer reads the notice and gives consent.
2. They take or upload a photo of their INE, passport or other official ID.
3. They take a live selfie turning their head; it's compared with the ID photo.
4. Pending showing requests reach the agent with the verified badge.
