# Multilistado search on WordPress

Install the free "Multilistado IDX" plugin, paste your widget ID and add the block or a shortcode to any page. No coding needed.

## Before you start

- **Verified Multilistado account** (free). The widget is created at [Portal → More → IDX widget](https://multilistado.mx/portal/widget).
- **WordPress 5.8 or later and PHP 7.4 or later** on your hosting.
- **WordPress.com:** installing plugins requires a paid plan (Personal, Premium, Business or Commerce, per [WordPress.com](https://wordpress.com/support/plugins/install-a-plugin/), accessed 2026-09-30). On the free plan use the [iframe](https://multilistado.mx/developers/widget?lang=en#html) if your plan allows HTML, or link to your Multilistado site.
- The plugin is embed-only: it stores your ID and a few settings, **makes no calls from your server** and copies no listings into your database. Your visitors' browsers load the search from multilistado.mx.

Create a free API key at https://multilistado.mx/portal/api-keys (verified agents).

## Steps

### 1. Create your widget and copy the ID

At [multilistado.mx/portal/widget](https://multilistado.mx/portal/widget) click **Create widget**. Choose **Which listings does it show?** (the whole Multilistado or only yours), filters, language and colors, and click **Save**. The ID is the 24-character code (digits and letters a–f) shown in the WordPress section, e.g. `3f9a0c1e2b4d5a6c7e8f9012`.

### 2. Download the plugin

[Download multilistado-idx.zip](https://multilistado.mx/descargas/multilistado-idx.zip) (version 1.0.0, GPL-2.0-or-later). **Do not unzip it**: WordPress needs the .zip file.

### 3. Upload and install

In the WordPress dashboard (WordPress 6.x/7.x labels, checked 2026-09-30 against the [official documentation](https://wordpress.org/documentation/article/manage-plugins/)):

1. **Plugins → Add Plugin** (older versions: "Add New").
2. Click **Upload Plugin** (top) and choose `multilistado-idx.zip`.
3. **Install Now** → **Activate Plugin**.

On WordPress.com (default view): **Plugins → Upload** and drag the .zip; it installs and activates automatically.

### 4. Paste your ID

**Settings → Multilistado IDX**:

| Field | What to enter |
|---|---|
| **Widget ID** | Your 24-character ID |
| **Embed mode** | **Script (recommended: automatic height)**. Use "Plain iframe" only if a security or optimization plugin blocks external scripts |
| **Initial height (px)** | 900 (300–4000). In script mode the height adjusts itself |
| **"See all properties" link** | Optional: the https address of your free Multilistado site. Iframe content gives your site no search credit; a normal link does |

Click **Save Changes**.

### 5. Add the search to a page

**Block editor (Gutenberg):** add the **Multilistado** block (category "Embeds"). In the sidebar choose **Show**: "Search bar + results" or "Results only", and optionally city, type and operation. The editor shows a placeholder; the search appears on the published page.

**Shortcode:** add a **Shortcode** block and paste:

### 6. Test

Open the published page (in a private window, signed out), search, open a listing and send an information request with your own details. It should appear in [Portal → Leads](https://multilistado.mx/portal/leads) with source `widget:<your ID>`. Check on a phone too.

## Shortcode attributes

Attribute names are Spanish (the same in every site language).

Shortcode filters replace the widget's defaults; visitors can change them from the search bar. "Results per page" is set on the widget (portal).

## Elementor, Divi and other builders

- **Elementor:** drag the **Shortcode** widget and paste `[multilistado_busqueda]` (or the **HTML** widget with the [script](https://multilistado.mx/developers/widget?lang=en#script)). Both are in free Elementor ([Elementor help](https://elementor.com/help/shortcode-widget/), accessed 2026-09-30).
- **Divi:** add the **Code** module and paste the shortcode or the script ([Divi documentation](https://www.elegantthemes.com/documentation/divi/code/), accessed 2026-09-30).
- **Others (WPBakery, Beaver Builder, Bricks…):** any element that accepts shortcodes or "Custom HTML" works.
- **Without the plugin:** add a **Custom HTML** block with the [script](https://multilistado.mx/developers/widget?lang=en#script). Saving `<script>` requires the `unfiltered_html` capability (administrators and editors on a single site; only super admins on multisite).

## Troubleshooting

| Symptom | Fix |
|---|---|
| "Multilistado IDX: set your widget ID in Settings → Multilistado IDX." | Only administrators see it: the ID is missing or not 24 characters. |
| Nothing shows | Check the widget is **Active** in the portal; turn off "JavaScript optimization" (delay/combine scripts) for `multilistado.mx`, or switch to **Plain iframe**. |
| "This widget is not available." | The widget was disabled or deleted, or the ID is wrong. |
| Cut off or with a scrollbar | Use **Script** mode; in iframe mode raise the **Initial height**. |
| Does not show on your domain | If you filled **Allowed domains** in the portal, add your domain (`mysite.com` also covers `www.mysite.com`). |

## Uninstall

Deactivate and delete the plugin under **Plugins**; deleting it removes its settings. If you delete or disable the widget in the portal, the code stops showing on every site.
